"Filling the Vacuum" 2005

Edited by Fr. Harry Bohan

Despite our increasing prosperity, there is a growing sense of isolation and disconnectedness in Irish Society. For that reason the theme 'filling the vacuum' was chosen for this Conference. These papers from the Céifin Conference 2005 make compelling reading for those of us working towards a better society.

Gerard Kennedy and Father Harry Bohan

This collection of papers makes for essential reading for anyone who strives for a better future, one in which self-worth takes premium over worldly gain. "Global Aspirations & The Reality of Change - How can we do things differently?" 2003

Gerard Kennedy and Father Harry Bohan

Just imagine being transported through the revolution that Ireland has experienced in the past decade - the rise and rise in consumption, the acceleration in the pace of work and personal life, the effect of communication replacing transmission, the means overcoming the end... but despite all that, imagine that change is possible. Imagine a revolution of deceleration... This collection of papers from Conference 2003 includes contributions from Professor Mícheál O'Súilleabháin, Dr. Sinead Donnelly and Economist Jim Power amongst others.

"Values & Ethics - Can I make a difference?" 2002

Gerard Kennedy and Father Harry Bohan

What are the values that we choose to prioritise and live by? What price are we prepared to pay for ethics? Is it enough to rely on the law as the minimum standard of acceptable behaviour? Ultimately, can one person make a difference? These and other far-reaching questions are addressed in Values and Ethics: Can I Make a Difference? This book gives hope that real change can begin with committed individuals who believe passionately that shared values can become a social reality.

"Working Towards Balance" 1999

Gerard Kennedy and Father Harry Bohan

There is growing consensus that corporate and market values now shape Irish society. Economic growth is synonymous with progress. But economic activity represents only one facet of human existence. Its values are not the only values that prevail in society. As we begin a new millennium, our society must be challenged to wonder what direction it is taking. Contributors at this conference included: Fintan O'Toole, John O'Donohue, Stephen Covey and Miriam Moore amongst others.

"Are We Forgetting Something?" 1998

Gerard Kennedy and Father Harry Bohan

'Romantic Ireland's dead and gone, it's with O'Leary in the grave', was the poet's cry a century ago. On the cusp of the third millennium many people fear the death of the Irish sense of community. The concept of a caring society seems well-buried in the selfishness of consumerism and mé-féinism encouraged by the phenomenon of the Celtic Tiger. These were the concerns that inspired Fr. Harry Bohan to organise a conference on the theme 'Are We Forgetting Something? Our Society in the New Millennium' in November 1998. This provocative and incisive volume also includes the views of the three chairpersons of the Conference: Marie Martin, John Quinn and Michael Kenny, and is interspersed with well-chosen poetic and spiritual reflections on the topics addressed.
